Tai Chi, also known as Tai Chi Chuan, is a mind-body exercise that combines movements, meditation, and deep breathing. Tai chi is an ancient Chinese martial art.
Initially developed for combat and self-defense, it has evolved into a sport and form of exercise. Tai chi is a gentle, low-impact form of exercise in which practitioners perform a series of deliberate, flowing motions while focusing on deep relaxation while keeping body structure with slow relaxed breathing. Breath, movement, and awareness work together in Tai Chi. Often referred to as “meditation in motion,” Tai Chi aims to concentrate and balance the body’s qi (vital energy), providing many benefits to mental and physical health.
Some standard principles of my Tai Chi include:
Centered, yielding Smoothly flowing at the pace of nature Circles and spirals of never-ending movement. No beginning, no end Awareness is born within breath.

Qi Gong utilises visualisation techniques, breath control, and repeated fluid movements/exercises to channel the flow of Qi throughout the meridians in the body to release illness and disease that cause blockages and promote wellness. Many describe it as giving yourself an acupuncture treatment without the needles because it clears energy channels and regulates the function of Chi. Qigong builds energy and with repeated practice enhances the mind-body connection, raises the spirit and strengthens the immune system.
Yiquan is mostly known for the standing postures, Zhan Zhuang, which are the main training practice for those interested in health only.
The practice of Yichuan is a great addition to any martial arts system. It helps you build a strong foundation, trains the body to relax but within a solid structure, builds correct posture, balance and internal and external strength.
The core principle of Yiquan revolves around the concept of opposing forces in harmonious connection. Additionally, the practice emphasizes momentum transfer and the cultivation of “whole-body power.”
By learning to integrate the body and mind through standing meditation, the Yiquan practitioner develops the capacity to put ‘all of the body’ behind a movement or application.
The benefits of these practices are numerous, both physically, mentally and spiritually.
